To qualify, client families must have an immediate family member currently diagnosed with cancer who is undergoing cancer treatment, in the early stages of recovery, or transitioning into palliative care. Olive Us Care will provide 10 volunteer hours per month.
All of our volunteers are required to have a valid First Aid/CPR certificate and current Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
Once the volunteer/client family match is confirmed, the Olive Us Care volunteer arrives at the home and greets the family. Once the greetings are exchanged the fun can begin. During volunteer visits perhaps the children want to play outside, maybe a walk to the park or an exciting game of Monopoly is on deck.
Parents can use this time to run errands, attend appointments or simply spend time with friends and family. Knowing that the children/siblings are being well looked after will provide peace of mind.
What our volunteers can not do:
- Drive children to and from activities/location
- Care for the individual undergoing treatment
- Extend beyond the 10 hours per month
